Medical devices - Guidance on the application of ISO 14971

This document provides guidance on the development, implementation and maintenance of a risk management system for medical devices according to ISO 14971:2019. The risk management process can be part of a quality management system, for example one that is based on ISO 13485:2016[24], but this is not required by ISO 14971:2019. Some requirements in ISO 13485:2016 (Clause 7 on product realization and 8.2.1 on feedback during monitoring and measurement) are related to risk management and can be fulfilled by applying ISO 14971:2019. <p>ISO/TR 24971:2013 provides guidance in addressing specific areas of ISO 14971 when implementing risk management. This guidance is intended to assist manufacturers and other users of the standard to understand the role of international product safety and process standards in risk management, develop the policy for determining the criteria for risk acceptability, incorporate production and post-production feedback loop into risk management, differentiate between "information for safety" and "disclosure of residual risk", and evaluate overall residual risk.</p>
