La présente norme expérimentale a été élaborée par la commission "Interchangeabilité des composants des véhicules utilitaires et autobus" du B.N.A. conformément aux travaux de l'ISO TC22/SC15/GT4 concernant l'interchangeabilité entre véhicules tracteurs et remorques. Elle définit les caractéristiques des dispositifs d'attelage de 40 et de 50 mm non interchangeables entre eux. Dans l'impossibilité actuelle de faire un choix entre ceux-ci, il a été décidé d'attribuer à cette norme un statut expérimental pour une durée de 3 ans. De plus, elle définit l'encombrement des chapes d'attelage qui a été jugé nécessaire en France pour assurer une réelle interchangeabilité.
