La norme NF P 75-305 donne une classification conventionnelle des isolants thermiques manufacturés destinés au bâtiment en fonction de leur caractère de non hydrophilie. Elle utilise pour cela les méthodes d'essais d'absorption d'eau par gravité, aspersion et capillarité décrites dans les normes NF P 75-302, NF P 75-303, et NF P 75-304. Selon la norme NF P75-102, un isolant est dit non hydrophile si, placé au contact de l'eau, il n'est susceptible d'absorber celle-ci par gravité, aspersion ou capillarité qu'en quantité considérée comme négligeable.
