Devant l'importance de ce marché, il est apparu utile d'établir une norme pour l'étiquetage des litières telles que vendues, de façon à permettre au consommateur de choisir en fonction des composants de la litière et de ses besoins. Elle a été réalisée à partir des propositions du Syndicat Interprofessionnel des Fabricants et Distributeurs de Produits et Animaux Familiers (PRODAF).
