Le présent document traite des sujets suivants : caractérisation des dimensions des roues et des voies ; principe de conception géométrique pour le guidage des roues ; principes de conception pour le transfert de charge des roues ; décision sur la nécessité d'utiliser des coeurs à parties mobiles. Les sujets sont illustrés par l'application aux composants du branchement aiguillages, coeurs, contre-rails, mais les principes s'appliquent également aux appareils de voie plus complexes. Le présent document donne les moyens de se conformer à la Directive 2008/57/CE relative à l'intéropérabilité du système ferroviaire au sein de la Communauté (voir Annexe ZA).
