La présente norme s'adresse plus particulièrement aux concepteurs de vérins, ainsi qu'aux services donneurs d'ordre et de contrôle. Elle précise les règles générales de fabrication et de fonctionnement applicables aux vérins, les essais de type qu'ils doivent subir pour pouvoir être déclarés conformes à la présente norme ainsi que les essais individuels à faire subir à chaque vérin après fabrication. Elle est complétée par la norme A 82-160, plus spécialement destinée à l'utilisateur des vérins, qui en précise les dimensions.
