Il définit l'appareillage et les méthodes d'évaluation des effets thermiques. Il est applicable à la plupart des polymères, notamment les polymères et copolymères d'éthylène ainsi que les matières présentant le même type d'altérations sous l'effet de la chaleur. La présente méthode permet de comparer les stabilités thermiques de diverses matières.
