The parameters used in this document allow: a) the description of a lighting situation in dependence on: the position of the area considered; the specific traffic present on the area; the influence of the environment. b) the special consideration of conditions that enable the effective use of energy. This document does not specify criteria for deciding whether to illuminate a traffic area or how to use a lighting system. It does not contain instructions for selecting the lighting classes for pedestrian crossings, tunnels, canals or locks. This document does not apply to the lighting of pedestrian crossings. For these, DIN 67523-1 and DIN 67523-2 apply.
