IEC 62149-3:2020 covers the performance specification for electroabsorption (EA) type optical modulators monolithically integrated with laser diodes for 40 Gbit/s fibre optic transmission systems. This document contains a definition of the product performance requirements together with a series of sets of tests and measurements with clearly defined conditions, severities and pass/fail criteria. The tests are intended to be run as an initial design verification to prove any product's ability to satisfy this document's requirements. This document is applicable for on-off keying format. A product that has been shown to meet all the requirements of a performance standard can be declared as compliant with the performance standard but will then be controlled by a quality assurance program. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2014 and constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: updates of the title, scope, normative references and performance test tables.The contents of the corrigendum of February 2021 have been included in this copy.

IEC 62149-3:2014 covers the performance specification for optical modulators monolithically integrated with laser diodes for 2,5 Gbit/s to 40 Gbit/s multi-channel fibre optic transmission systems. This performance standard contains a definition of the product performance requirements together with a series of sets of tests and measurements with clearly defined conditions, severities and pass/fail criteria. The tests are intended to be run as an initial design verification to prove any product's ability to satisfy the performance standard's requirements. This standard is only applicable for on-off keying format. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2004 and constitutes a technical revision. The significant technical change with respect to the previous edition is as follows: The performance standards covered by this standard are now extended to a 40 Gb/s-class system from their original 2,5 Gb/s. This document contains definitions for product performance requirements as well as a series of tests and measurements, for which clearly defined conditions, severities and pass/fail criteria are provided. The tests are intended to be run as an initial design verification to prove any product's ability to satisfy this document's requirements. This document is applicable for on-off keying modulation formats. A product that has been shown to meet all the requirements of a performance standard can be declared as compliant with the performance standard but will then be controlled by a quality assurance program. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2020. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) specification of pull force for fibre pull test in Table 6 according to fibre type; b) change of symbol for kink free radiant power in Table 4 and Table 5; c) replacement of undefined symbols in Table 7; d) addition of IEC 62149-1 as a normative reference.
