La présente norme décrit les méthodes de contrôle direct ou indirect applicables aux machines destinées à mesurer la dureté Rockwell, selon la NF A 03-153. La méthode directe consiste à contrôler les principaux éléments de la machine (mécanisme d'application de la charge, pénétrateur, dispositif de mesure). La méthode indirecte est un contrôle global qui consiste à vérifier les indications de la machine par rapport à des blocs de référence étalonnés selon la NF A 03-506.
