La présente norme décrit une méthode de contrôle de l'usinabilité par tournage des aciers de décolletage, des aciers de construction et des aciers austénitiques à l'aide d'outils en carbures métalliques frittés. L'usinabilité est évaluée en procédant par comparaison avec un acier de référence correspondant à l'acier soumis à l'essai. La méthode de référence décrite dans la présente norme est un essai de tournage conduit jusqu'à une usure donnée de l'outil. La présente norme vient s'ajouter aux normes NFA 03-654 et NF A 03-656 qui concernent des méthodes de contrôle de l'usinabilité respectivement par tournage et par perçage avec l'aide d'outils en acier rapide.
