Les prescriptions qu'elle définit ont un caractère général et s'appliquent aux matériaux métalliques. Les prescriptions complémentaires spécifiques aux demi-produits en aluminium, cuivre, nickel et leurs alliages sont données respectivement dans les normes NF A04-503 à NF A04-505.
