La présente norme comprend des méthodes d'essai pour les performances fonctionnelles ainsi que des spécifications pour la documentation à fournir avec le produit. Les écrans sont conçus pour protéger l'utilisateur d'une exposition involontaire au rayonnement laser direct et/ou diffus ou d'une exposition limitée dans le temps au rayonnement laser fondée sur les spécifications fonctionnelles déterminées par une analyse du risque.
