Elle définit les différents modèles de joints pour assemblages à brides, objet des normes NF E 29-900 parties 2 à 6. Elle donne en outre les critères à prendre en considération pour le choix du modèle de joint approprié. Les normes NF E 29-900 parties 2 à 6 définissent pour chaque modèle de joint les spécifications (dimensions, matériaux, désignation, marquage) qui leur sont applicables.

La norme NF E 29-900 partie 1 définit les différents modèles de joints pour assemblages à brides et donne les critères à prendre en considération pour le choix du modèle de joint approprié. Les normes NF E 29-900 parties 3 à 6 donnent les spécifications techniques applicables aux modèles de joints autres que ceux couverts par la présente norme.
