Le choix de la (des) méthode (s) d'essai appropriée (s) est fait conformément au type particulier et à l'application du produit soudé. Les résultats des essais dépendent des conditions d'élaboration pour les éprouvettes et des conditions d'essai. Ils ne peuvent donc être liés qu'au comportement du produit ou ne peuvent être utilisés pour la conception d'une structure que si les conditions d'essai peuvent être liées aux conditions de service.
