Le présent document décrit une méthode permettant de déterminer l'adhérence d'une surface, à l'emplacement soumis à l'essai, par l'intermédiaire d'un pendule dont le bras muni en son extrémité d'un patin en caoutchouc normalisé monté sur ressort est lâché à partir de la position horizontale. La perte d'énergie entraînée par le frottement du patin sur la surface est mesurée sur une échelle calibrée donnant la diminution d'amplitude d'oscillation du bras. Cette méthode fournit une mesure des caractéristiques d'adhérence d'une petite surface de revêtement (environ 0,01 m2) sur terrain ou en laboratoire dont il faut tenir compte de la représentativité par rapport à l'ensemble de la surface visée.
