Le présent document fait partie d'une série de normes mises au point par le CEN/TC 175 "Bois ronds et bois sciés". Il définit les termes généraux concernant les escaliers en bois mais également le bois dans les escaliers industriels, y compris les matériaux à base de bois. La norme NF P 21-210, d'avril 1993, de même intitulé est maintenue car elle contient des termes et définitions non traités dans le présent document. Pour les termes identiques, le présent document s'impose.
