Il permet une classification utilisant un système basé sur la composition nominale ou sur le type d'alliage. Il existe d'autres normes relatives à la classification des électrodes enrobées pour le soudage manuel à l'arc des aciers. Ce sont les normes NF EN ISO 18275, NF EN ISO 2560, NF EN ISO 14172 et NF EN ISO 3580.
