Le présent document traite de la conception parasismique des ponts pour lesquels les actions horizontales sismiques sont principalement reprises, soit par des culées, soit par la flexion des piles. Il peut être appliqué pour le dimensionnement sismique d'autres types de ponts comme les ponts en arc, les ponts portiques, les ponts à béquilles et les ponts haubanés. Le présent document ne couvre pas complètement les ponts suspendus, les ponts mobiles ou les ponts de configuration extrême.
