Il est applicable à l''essence sans plomb destinée aux véhicules à moteur à essence conçus pour utiliser ce carburant. Il spécifie deux types d''essence sans plomb : l''une avec une teneur maximale en oxygène de 3,7 pour cent (m/m) et une teneur maximale en éthanol de 10,0 pour cent (V/V) , et l''autre avec une teneur maximale en oxygène de 2,7 pour cent (m/m) et une teneur maximale en éthanol de 5,0 pour cent (V/V) .
