L'usine du futur à structure intégrée sera articulée autour d'un puissant réseau informatique indépendant de la technologie choisie pour relier des machines entres elles. Ceci permettra de connecter tous les équipements machines-outils, robots, automates programmables, machines de vision, processus continus..., par une prise banalisée. Pour assurer la communication de données entre ces machines hétérogènes, il faut définir un nouveau protocole de communication et son service : c'est l'objet du présent document Z 68-110 - Parties 1 et 2. Ce document est la proposition MMS - (Manufacturing Message Specification) - "Messagerie Industrielle", en cours d'acceptation au niveau international.
