Le présent document spécifie la méthode d'essai utilisée pour déterminer la capacité d'un câble utilisé dans des réseaux analogiques et numériques de communication à bloquer la migration longitudinale d'eau le long d'une longueur spécifiée. Cet essai s'applique aux câbles étanches en long à l'eau. Il doit être lu avec la partie 4-1 de la norme NF EN 50289 qui contient les dispositions essentielles pour l'application de la présente partie.
