La présente partie de la IEC 60076 définit les prescriptions pour que les transformateurs de puissance supportent sans dommage les effets des surcharges occasionnées par des court-circuits externes. Elle décrit les procédés de calcul utilisés pour démontrer l'aptitude thermique d'un transformateur de puissance à supporter de telles surcharges ainsi que l'essai spécial et la méthode de calcul utilisés pour démontrer son aptitude à résister aux effets mécaniques afférents. Les prescriptions s'appliquent aux transformateurs définis dans le domaine d'application de la IEC 60076-1.
