La présente partie de l'ISO 1043 prescrit les symboles uniformes à utiliser pour qualifier les ignifugeants ajoutés aux matières plastiques. Ces symboles se composent de l'abréviation «FR» suivie d'un ou plusieurs des codes numériques donnés dans l'article 5. Ces symboles viennent s'ajouter aux symboles qualifiant les plastiques eux-mêmes, pour la désignation du matériau plastique et le marquage des produits plastiques.

Dans le présent amendement, l'hexabromocyclododécane (HBCD) maintenant soumis à la réglementation relative aux polluants organiques persistants (POP) est ainsi exclu des codes 14 et 15 ; il lui a été attribué les codes 23 et 24. La silice est une composition inorganique et non pas une composition organique. "Compositions à base de silice" est remplacé par "Compositions à base de silicium".
