La présente Norme internationale spécifie, parallèlement à l'ISO 15004, les prescriptions et les méthodes d'essai relatives aux appareils photographiques utilisés exclusivement pour la photographie du fond de l'oeil humain. La présente Norme internationale se fonde sur des techniques qui impliquent les effets directs d'une image optique sur une émulsion photographique. La présente Norme internationale n'est pas applicable aux types suivants d'appareils photographiques du fond de l'oeil: -- ceux conçus pour la production d'une stéréophotographie simultanée; -- ceux qui utilisent le rayonnement infrarouge comme source d'éclairage du système d'observation. La présente Norme internationale a la priorité sur l'ISO 15004, lorsque des différences existent.

ISO 10940:2009, together with ISO 15004-1 and ISO 15004-2, specifies requirements and test methods for fundus cameras operating for observing, photographing or recording electronic images of the fundus of the human eye in order to provide the image information for diagnosis. ISO 10940:2009 takes precedence over ISO 15004-1 and ISO 15004-2, if differences exist.
