Le présent document décrit une méthode, dite "méthode SPB" ou "méthode statistique au passage", permettant l''évaluation des revêtements de chaussées selon le bruit émis par la circulation, pour différentes conditions de trafic. Il s''agit d''une méthode de mesurage de la vitesse et du niveau sonore pondéré A sur un nombre statistiquement élevé de passages de véhicules particuliers au droit d''un emplacement donné en bord de route. Elle est applicable à des véhicules se déplaçant à vitesse constante, c''est-à-dire dans des conditions de trafic fluide, à des vitesses recommandées de 50 km/h et plus.
