La norme NF M 07-011 s'adresse aux produits et mélanges pétroliers liquides dont les points d'éclair, en vase clos, sont compris entre - 18 °C et 71 °C. Elle décrit une méthode qui consiste à chauffer le produit, dans un appareil ABEL, parfaitement défini, dans des conditions normalisées, jusqu'à ce que les vapeurs s'enflamment en présence d'une flamme. La température du produit à cet instant constitue le point d'éclair.

Determination of flash point - Abel closed-cup method

ISO 13736:2008 specifies a method for the determination of the closed-cup flash point of combustible liquids having flash points between - 30,0 °C and 70,0 °C, inclusive. However, the precision given for this method is only valid for flash points in the range - 5,0 °C to 66,5 °C. ISO 13736:2008 is not applicable to water-borne paints, which can, however, be tested using ISO 3679.
