Cette norme définit les principes généraux de la détermination de l'indice de viscosité des polymères dilués. Elle sert de guide pour la mesure et l'expression des viscosités de ces polymères. Dans le cas des solutions de haut-polymères, habituellement "non newtoniens", on parle de viscosité apparente au gradient de vitesse correspondante.
