NF EN ISO 23553-1
Safety and control devices for oil burners and oil-burning appliances - Particular requirements - Part 1 : automatic and semi-automatic valves
ISO 23553-1:2014 specifies safety, constructional and performance requirements and testing of automatic and semi-automatic valves for oil.It applies to automatic and semi-automatic valves which are:-normally closed;-used in combustion plants to interrupt the oil flow with or without delay on closing;-for use with oil types (e.g. middle distillate fuel oil, crude oil, heavy fuel oil or kerosene) without gasoline;-for use on burners or in appliances using oil;-directly or indirectly operated, electrically or by mechanical or hydraulic means;-fitted with or without closed-position indicator switches.ISO 23553-1:2014 covers type testing only.
ISO 23553-1:2014 specifies safety, constructional and performance requirements and testing of automatic and semi-automatic valves for oil.
It applies to automatic and semi-automatic valves which are:
-normally closed;
-used in combustion plants to interrupt the oil flow with or without delay on closing;
-for use with oil types (e.g. middle distillate fuel oil, crude oil, heavy fuel oil or kerosene) without gasoline;
-for use on burners or in appliances using oil;
-directly or indirectly operated, electrically or by mechanical or hydraulic means;
-fitted with or without closed-position indicator switches.

ISO 23553-1 specifies safety, constructional and performance requirements, and testing of safety shut-off devices, for liquid fuels. ISO 23553-1 covers type testing only. It applies to safety shut-off devices which: are designed as e.g. automatic valves or fast-closing devices; are used in combustion plants to interrupt the flow of liquid fuels with or without delay on closing and with or without delay on opening; are for use with fuel oils; form part of a device having other function(s), such as oil pumps — in this case the test methods apply to those parts or components of the device forming the safety shut-off device, i.e. those parts which are necessary for the closing function; have declared maximum working pressures up to and including 5 000 kPa, for use on burners or in appliances using liquid fuels; are directly or indirectly operated electrically or by mechanical or hydraulic means; and are fitted with or without closed-position indicator switches. The methods of test given in ISO 23553-1 are intended for product type testing.
This document specifies safety, constructional and performance requirements and testing of automatic and semi-automatic valves for oil. It applies to automatic and semi-automatic valves which are: — normally closed; — used in combustion plants to interrupt the oil flow with or without delay on closing; — for use with oil types (e.g. middle distillate fuel oil, crude oil, heavy fuel oil or kerosene) without gasoline; NOTE 1 For other oil types (e.g. oil emulsions), additional test methods can be agreed between the manufacturer and the test authority. NOTE 2 Oil types from petroleum refining processes are classified ISO-F-D in ISO 8216-99 and form part of a device having other function(s), such as oil pumps. In this case, the test methods apply to those parts or components of the device forming the automatic and semi-automatic valves, i.e. those parts which are necessary for the closing function. — for use on burners or in appliances using oil; — directly or indirectly operated, electrically or by mechanical or hydraulic means; — fitted with or without closed-position indicator switches. This document covers type testing only.

The Requirements department helps you quickly locate within the normative text:
- mandatory clauses to satisfy,
- non-essential but useful clauses to know, such as permissions and recommendations.
The identification of these types of clauses is based on the document “ISO / IEC Directives, Part 2 - Principles and rules of structure and drafting of ISO documents ”as well as on a constantly enriched list of verbal forms.
