Il traite du procédé de fabrication, du traitement à la livraison, des exigences en terme de composition chimique, propriétés mécaniques, trempabilité, usinabilité, taille de grains, qualité de surface et dimensions. Il définit les méthodes d'essai (essais mécaniques, de dureté et de trempe) , ainsi que la vérification des dimensions.
