Le présent document décrit une méthode d'essai de comportement des matériaux textiles sous toutes leurs formes vis-à-vis de leur aptitude à la propagation d'une flamme. Cette méthode doit être uniquement utilisée pour évaluer les propriétés des matériaux ou systèmes en réaction à une chaleur et une flamme dans des conditions contrôlées. Les résultats ne doivent pas être appliqués à des situations où il y a apport réduit d'air ou bien exposition prolongée à des sources importantes d'intense chaleur, comme cela est le cas dans un incendie.

ISO 6941:2003 specifies a method for the measurement of flame spread times of vertically oriented textile fabrics and industrial products in the form of single or multi-component fabrics (coated, quilted, multilayered, sandwich combinations, and similar combinations) when subjected to a small, defined flame.
