La présente norme définit les spécifications optiques auxquelles doivent répondre les pièces d'optique. Ces spécifications comprennent les définitions et les méthodes de mesure des propriétés optiques (indice de réfraction, biréfringence et facteurs de transmission) et des hétérogénéités du verre. Elle spécifie d'autre part la désignation des verres d'optique d'une part d'après la codification internationale et d'autre part d'après la codification en usage en France.

This document specifies the indication of tolerances for four categories of imperfections within optical materials — stress birefringence, bubbles and inclusions, homogeneity, and striae — in the ISO 10110 series, which standardizes drawing indications for optical elements and systems. Tolerances are applied either to a finished optical part, a finished system of optical parts, or to the raw material used to manufacture an optical part.
