La présente norme établit le vocabulaire des principales chaînes articulées en acier- classées selon leur conception et/ou leur utilisation - ainsi que le vocabulaire des principaux accessoires et des roues dentées. Chaque fois que possible, les termes sont explicités par un schéma. La présente norme définit également les symboles et les désignations des dimensions caractéristiques des chaînes et des roues dentées. Elle s'applique aux chaînes de transmission et de manutention à l'exclusion des chaînes de levage en acier rond à maillons soudés. Elle comporte en annexe un lexique multilingue (français - anglais - allemand) des termes contenus dans le corps de la norme. La liste des chaînes et accessoires figurant dans la présente norme n'est pas limitative.
