Les matières fines du noir de carbone sont constituées, par définition, d'agglomérats, granulés ou fragments de granulés, qui passent à travers un tamis d'ouverture de maille 125 micromètres, dans des conditions définies. La connaissance de la teneur en matières fines est importante vis-à-vis de l'aptitude du produit à : dégager des poussières, être transporté, être incorporé dans les mélanges. En raison des différents procédés de granulation, les proportions d'agglomérats, granulés ou fragments de granulés, inférieurs à 125 micromètres, peuvent varier très largement et modifier notablement le comportement des produits.
