Le présent document spécifie trois méthodes pour la détermination du taux de cendres des caoutchoucs bruts, des mélanges à base de caoutchouc et des vulcanisats. Dans le cas du caoutchouc naturel, la teneur en cendres est un critère de qualité permettant d''apprécier le niveau de contamination éventuelle. Elle fait partie des spécifications techniques. Pour les caoutchoucs bruts et les vulcanisats, il s''agit d''un contrôle à la demande. Il spécifie le principe de chacune des méthodes, l''appareillage, le réactif, la préparation de la prise d''essai, les modes opératoires, l''expression des résultats, et la détermination de la fidélité des méthodes d''essai. La partie 2 traite de la détermination du taux de cendre par analyse thermogravimétrique (TGA) .
