La connaissance de la teneur en impuretés contribue à renseigner le caoutchoutier sur la qualité des balles. Les impuretés présentes dans le caoutchouc constituent des amorces de rupture préjudiciable à la durée de vie des pièces en caoutchouc vulcanisé. La teneur en impuretés est le critère principal de classification du caoutchouc naturel. La méthode décrite a pour but une estimation globale des divers débris d'origine minérale ou végétale introduits accidentellement dans la balle de caoutchouc ; la méthode n'est pas applicable aux impuretés qui se trouvent sur la surface du caoutchouc par suite d'une contamination.

<p>ISO 249:2014 specifies a method for the determination of the dirt content of raw natural rubber. It is not applicable to dirt present as surface contamination.</p>
