La norme NF M 07-011 s'adresse aux produits et mélanges pétroliers liquides dont les points d'éclair, en vase clos, sont compris entre - 18 °C et 71 °C. Elle décrit une méthode qui consiste à chauffer le produit, dans un appareil ABEL, parfaitement défini, dans des conditions normalisées, jusqu'à ce que les vapeurs s'enflamment en présence d'une flamme. La température du produit à cet instant constitue le point d'éclair.
