Il complète les normes NF EN 1846-1:1998, NF EN 1846-2:2002 et XP S61-509-4:2002 qui définissent des prescriptions communes applicables aux véhicules des services de secours et de lutte contre l'incendie, ainsi qu'à certains de leurs équipements installés à demeure (installation d'eau, installation d'additif, lance-canon et supports d'équipements).
