L'extrait acétonique contient les éléments non caoutchouc présents dans le caoutchouc naturel brut et solubles dans l'acétone, tels que : acides gras, stérols, quebrachitol, etc.Dans le cas de caoutchoucs naturels conservés dans des conditions très oxydantes, exposition à la lumière solaire intense par exemple, l'extrait acétonique pourra contenir du caoutchouc dégradé, c'est-à-dire de basse masse moléculaire.La détermination de l'extrait acétonique renseigne sur la teneur en polyisoprène naturel, la teneur en huile (caoutchouc étendu à l'huile).
