Le présent document spécifie une méthode d'isolement et de dénombrement des Legionella dont Legionella pneumophila dans les eaux. Cette méthode faisant appel à un milieu sélectif peut être appliquée à tous les types d'eaux : eaux destinées à la consommation humaine, eaux chaudes sanitaires, eaux minérales naturelles à usage thermal (définies comme eaux propres) , eaux récréatives, eaux industrielles, eaux d'installation de refroidissement par dispersion d'eau dans un flux d'air (IRDEFA) , eaux naturelles (définies comme eaux sales) .
