Il détaille les différentes étapes du processus, à savoir : étape 1 : établissement du profil de vie ; étape 2 : caractérisation de l'environnement ; étape 3 : synthèse de l'environnement ; étape 4 : détermination du programme d'essais. Il apporte également un éclairage spécifique sur les principaux outils mathématiques utilisés.
