Le présent document décrit le processus général d'une chaîne d'étalonnage appliquée aux raccordements des mesurages de polluants atmosphériques gazeux réglementés dans l'air ambiant avec l'étalon approprié, par comparaisons successives à l'aide d'appareils automatiques. Le dernier maillon de la chaîne est le réglage d'un analyseur en station avec un étalon de transfert ; le calcul de l'incertitude de cette dernière étape n'est pas couvert par ce document mais par les normes européennes désignées comme méthodes de référence dans la réglementation européenne sur la qualité de l'air.
