Le présent document fixe les caractéristiques générales des tampons pour le contrôle des cônes 5 % destinés à être utilisés avec des cônes d'emmanchement intérieurs de conicité 5 %. Il spécifie les dimensions, les tolérances, le matériau, la désignation et le marquage de ces tampons. Les tampons pour cônes 5 % intérieurs destinés à s'emmancher avec des cônes extérieurs à tenon font l'objet de la norme NF E 02-315. Les bagues pour cônes 5 % à trou taraudé ou cônes 5 % à tenon font l'objet des normes homologuées NF E 02-316 et NF E 02-317.
