La révision de la norme NF E 29-801 de 1968 a été jugée nécessaire afin de la mettre en conformité stricte avec la norme ISO 49 de 1983 qui révise la recommandation ISO/R 49 de 1957 et d'introduire dans la désignation des raccords et bouchons la possibilité de remplacer le symbole du type (d'origine ISO) par le numéro d'ordre d'origine DIN 2950. L'attention du lecteur est attirée sur le fait que les qualités de fontes prescrites dans la présente norme et dans la norme DIN 2950 diffèrent.
