Il définit des règles générales de marquage pour l'identification des machines, pour leur utilisation sûre, relatives aux risques mécaniques et électriques, et pour éviter les risques liés à des liaisons erronées. Ce document entre dans le champ d'application de la Directive " Machines " n° 98/37/CE du 22/06/1998 modifiée par 98/79/CE du 27/10/1998, de la Directive " Machines " n° 2006/42/CE du 17/05/2006 et de la Directive Basse Tension n°2006/95/CE du 12/12/2006.
