Le présent document définit la terminologie, spécifie les conditions de préparation de l'essai et les caractéristiques de l'appareillage. Il fixe le mode opératoire à suivre pour réaliser un essai d'eau Lefranc et précise la présentation des résultats. Cet essai, applicable à tous les sols fins ou grenus sous la nappe, est un moyen de reconnaissance du terrain en place et permet d'évaluer une caractéristique hydraulique du sol par la détermination d'un coefficient de perméabilité locale, dit coefficient de perméabilité Lefranc.
